Gender, hiring, and (computational) (psycho-) linguistics

Hiring in linguistics is subject to the same hiring biases as elsewhere in academia. Partly due to my own experiences as a token candidate in several departments, I thought it would be useful to collate this information to highlight inequalities in recruitment and the way departments “signal” an interest in gender diversity but instead end up perpetuating longstanding gender biases, as adding gender diversity to a search provides plausible deniability. This is an incomplete list of searches that were specifically targeted toward psycholinguists, computational linguists, and/or computational psycholinguists, along with a very rough breakdown of the genders of the searches. If you would like to provide information to me about a search, please reach out to me by DM on Twitter (@BayesForDays) or email me at jacobs.cassandra.l@gmail.com. I have placed an asterisk for searches that I consider “exceptions” to the rule.
